After an early breakfast, our guide will come to receive you at the hotel and we drive to the airport to catch a flight to Lukla. The flight takes around 35 minutes and offers stunning views of Nepal’s mountainous landscape. In Lukla, you will meet your porter and the trekking begins. Namche is our destination today and can take 5-6 hours. From the beginning, you will experience rhododendron forests and views of snow-capped peaks. We first get to Phakding before getting into Sagarmatha National Park. We enter into Sagarmatha National Park from Monjo. We follow the Dudh Kosi, ascending through Himalayan pine and Deodar cedar forests, to the celebrated village of Namche Bazaar. This village is a historical trading post where Nepalese and Tibetan traders exchange salt, dried meat and textiles. The final section of today’s trek is tougher while getting to Namche Bazar.
Overnight in Namche Bazar.
The flat and easy trail leads towards the view of Mount Everest, then descends into the Dudh Kosi Valley at Pungki Thanka. From here it ascends to Tengboche Monastery (3860m), the spiritual centre of the Khumbu region. This monastery is the largest in the Khumbu Region and enshrines a Yeti skull as well as a statue of Lord Buddha. The climb up to Tengboche is long but you get rewarding views of the distinctive Mount Ama Dablam and on a clear day view of Mount Everest and its surrounding peaks. Overnight in Tengboche
Today we descend through a beautiful forest, then cross the Imja Khola before trekking through the village of Pangboche. We don’t lose altitude today as we do on other days and you will enjoy views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and other peaks. The route continues through pastures to Dingboche – known as the 'summer valley. Today we trek along a broad valley floor to Dughla, passing through the Trekkers Aid Post at Pheriche. The aid post is staffed by western volunteer doctors and supported by the Himalayan Rescue Association, which offers treatment and consultation to trekkers. Continue up the valley, gaining altitude and views of Tawache and Cholaste. We come out of the valley to descend to the yak pastures of Lobuche. Overnight in Lobuche.
Today is a big day. After a short climb through meadows, we look down on the Khumbu Glacier. Straight ahead is Kala Patthar – the best vantage point to view the entire south face of Everest and the surrounding peaks. After a couple of hours, we reach Gorak Shep before continuing our journey to Everest Base camp. There is not much elevation gain but there is a lot of up and down because you are walking on the Khumbu Glacier. Combined with altitude, this hike can be tiring. After about three hours you will arrive at Base Camp where Everest expeditions gather to start and finish their Everest ascent during the climbing season. Enjoy the views of the Khumbu Icefall.
