Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the most preferred trekking trails not only in Annapurna Region but it also fascinates thousands of nature lovers from the world. Annapurna Base Camp Trek takes in some of the best parts of the full Annapurna Circuit and also includes a visit to the Annapurna Base Camp. Passing through various magnificent local settlements, green pastures and landscapes, trekkers will ascend to Machhapuchhre Base Camp and finally to Annapurna Base Camp, the highest elevation of this trek. Namaste! Info Nepal Treks and Expedition heartily welcomes you to the city of temples – Kathmandu. We will meet you at the Tribhuvan International Airport. Our office representative will be there holding placard on which either client’s or company's name will be printed just opposite of the arrival and after your reception, we will drive to the hotel. After your arrival at the hotel, we fix the schedule for a short orientation meeting which gives you some general information about the trip and you will settle rest of the due payment at the same time. For this, you have to be with 3 P.P. size photographs, copy of passport and copy of travel insurance.

Overnight in hotel

    This is the day visiting to UNESCO World Heritage sites including Swyambhunath, Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath, Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square. Normally, the tour commences after breakfast. You will have lunch during the visit and the tour ends at around 4 in the afternoon. Some of the sites were destroyed by the April Earthquake and now they are being renovated.

    Overnight in Hotel

      The bus for Pokhara leaves at 7 am in the morning. The guide will come to receive you at the hotel and take you to the bus station. It is a tourist bus that you are going to use not local. During your drive, you happen to see Trishuli river which is famous for River Rafting and beautiful traditional settlements around it. It is around 6-7 hours drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. 

      Optionally, you can choose to hire a private car or jeep or Flight to Pokhara. If chose to hire private jeep or car, you will get Pokhara relatively earlier. The most earliest is the flight. It is 35 minutes scenic flight. Finally, you will get a popular tourist hub, Pokhara. A serene city with tranquil lakes and falls, Pokhara,  will fascinate every traveller.

      Overnight at the hotel. 

        After breakfast, we catch a bus to Nayapul. Nayapul is around one and a half hour driving distance from Pokhara.No sooner we reach Nayapul we head towards Tikhedhunga. It is around three hours walk. This (Nayapul) is the starting point of our Annapurna region Trekking. We will walk along the bank of Modi Khola (River). We arrive at Birethanti followed by Hille and we arrive at Tikhedhunga. Now, the real hiking begins. Climbing up Ulleri is strenuous. There are more than five thousands stone steps going all the way up. Thus, get well prepared for it. However, climbing up Ulleri offers you the real flavour of hiking in the mountain. 

        Overnight at Ulleri.

          Today we pass through Ulleri and walk on the stone steps of more than 1000 stars. The stairs will test your endurance and stamina. Magar are the main inhabitants of this area. They are one of the indigenous groups of Nepal out of 59 groups.

          We arrive at Banthanti. Crossing oak and rhododendron forests we reach Nangethanti. A further couple of hours from here will bring us at Ghorepani.

          Overnight in Ghorepani 

            Poon Hill is at a walking distance of around 45 minutes from Ghorepani. It is a vantage point where people gather in the morning to get the view of the rising sun. The sunrays striking Annapurna and Dhaulagiri in the morning are truly awesome.

            After spending a few hours in Poon-Hill we get back to Ghorepani and have breakfast. We now proceed towards Tadapani.

            We now get back to Poon-Hill for breakfast and proceed towards Tadapani.

            Overnight in Tadapani

              Following downhill track and crossing forests, we head ahead. We arrive at Gurjung. This area is inhabited by Gurung. From here we move further to arrive at Chomrung. Sanctuary Valley begins from Chomrung.

              We again proceed ahead. Relatively it is an easy and pleasant walk today. We cross Chomorung Khola (River). But, before crossing the river we descend down through approximately 2500 stone steps.

              Few hours of uphill climb will bring us at Sinuwa.

              Overnight in Sinuwa

                We pass through bamboo forests. We are exposed to sunlight where the forest ends. And, exactly here lies Himalaya Hotel. From this hotel, you get a nice view of the glacial river. We again head further to arrive at Deurali.

                Overnight in Deurali

                  It is dream realizing day for you! You will be at the footsteps of from Annapurna Base Camp. After breakfast, we head towards Annapurna Base Camp. It is an uphill climb. We reach Machhapuchhre Base Camp at first where we will be taking rest for some time. From here we move towards Annapurna Base Camp. It is around two hours walk from Machhapuchhre Base Camp. The view of Fishtail Mountain from here is ecstatic. You are an altitude of 4130m.

                  Overnight in Annapurna Base Camp

                    After breakfast, we start walking towards Bamboo. We will follow the same course which we experienced earlier but the difference is that this time we will be descending.

                      Experiencing uphill climb we proceed. We arrive at Sinuwa. Descend trail for here leads to Chommrung followed by Jhinu Danda.

                        Relatively it is simple and easy trail today. Following downhill trail along the bank of Modi Khola (River), we get at Nayapul. We lunch at Nayapul. From here we catch a local or private vehicle to reach Pokhara.

                        In Pokhara, you get ample of time to roam around and enjoy boating in Fewa Lake.

                        Overnight in Pokhara

                          After breakfast, we will be driving to Kathmandu. You will be riding through Prithvi Highway enjoying countryside Nepal. The will ride along the way of Trishuli River.

                          Here in the capital, you get ample of time to roam around especially, on the streets of Thamel. If interested, you can purchase gifts to your friend and family.

                          Info Nepal Treks and Expedition will offer you farewell dinner tonight.

                          Overnight in hotel

                            Your Nepal stay ends from today. The representative of Info Nepal Treks and Expedition will drop you at Tribhuvan International Airport three hours earlier to your scheduled flight.

                              Best Weather of the Year

                              There are two finest weathers in a year for Annapurna Base Camp Trek. In fact, these two weathers are best for all kind of trekking/travel in Nepal.

                              Autumn( Sep-Nov) and Spring (Mar-June) are the best two weathers of the year for Annapurna Base Camp Trek. Trekkers will entirely be favored by the weather condition during these months so that they don’t have to panic about any other unforeseen circumstances like rain and the snow during the trek.

                              The temperature will be mild, the views will be breathtaking and the trails will be very fine for getting new higher elevations and accomplish the trek pleasantly.

                              However, one can do Annapurna Base Camp throughout the year during the fair weathers when there is no rain and snow.

                              Level of Difficulty and Preparations

                              ABC or Annapurna Base Camp Trekking is a moderate adventure in Annapurna region of Nepal. It takes you to the highest elevation of 4130m through Ghorepani/Poonhill which is 2800/3200m. Trekking up to 4000m is considered to be a mild trekking. However, it can, sometimes, be challenging if you haven’t prepared comprehensibly especially for the beginners. Even, the beginners can do Annapurna Base Camp Trek but have to prepare very well.

                              Trekkers who are undertaking this trek have to have the experience of short hiking/day hiking/ walking ups and downs at least for 5-6 hours consistently. To avoid the sudden incidents on the trail, one has to boost up the level of stamina and confidence. Another important thing to prepare for Annapurna Base Camp is trekking equipment. It means, one must pack up very reliable trekking equipment and all other necessary stuffs before you depart for the venture.

                              Elevation Ranges

                              If you begin your trekking from Kathmandu, you are at 1400m high. Then, you switch to Pokhara which is located at an elevation of 900m lower than Kathmandu. Next, you go to Nayapool to begin hiking up to Ulleri (1960m) and Poonhill ( 3200m). Further, you will trek to Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m) and finally to Annapurna Base Camp(4200m) which is the highest elevation of this trek.

                              So, summing up, Annapurna Base Camp Trek Elevation ranges between 1400m-900-3200-4200m.

                              Required Permits

                              Trekkers require obtaining two different types of permits for Annapurna Base Camp Trek. These are TIMS Card (Trekking Information Management System) and Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit. If you can go and visit Nepal Tourism Board Office on your own, you can collect them, or, you travel partner will help you collecting these permits before you depart for the trek. TIMS Card costs USD 10 and Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit costs USD 30.

                              Food and Accommodation

                              Trekkers will have the food items provided by the local teahouses/lodges/hotels on the trail. You will have the food items like Continental, Asian, Chinese, Tibetan, Indian and Nepali dishes on the menu prepared by them. The food items will fresh and organic. Sometimes, you may not have the food item you like because they may run out of the raw materials for the foods since there is no good transportation facility on the trekking trail. Single item of food costs between Rs.600-1500 on the trail.

                              The accommodation will be provided by the local lodges/teahouses on the trail. The accommodation will be on the twin sharing basis. The beds and the rooms will fairly clean to stay overnight. But, you suggested carrying sleeping bag so that you don’t need to ask for extra piece of blanket in case the weather goes too cold.

                              Altitude Sickness and Preparations

                              Of course, there are a few cases of altitude sickness with the trekkers every on the trail while ascending up to Annapurna Base Camp. But it is not common to all. Actually, if the trekkers are not prepared well and they consume contaminated food and water, they may get altitude sickness. Also, if the trekkers get the new elevation quickly without proper acclimatization, they may get it.

                              What happens if you we get altitude sickness? You have got fever, stomach ache, diarrhea, lightheadedness, headache, vomiting etc. If these problems go worse, then, you had not better continue the trek and you must walk down or take rest at the place where you are. If you feel you at risk and ask your guide to arrange for the rescue and you will immediately be evacuated to the nearest city where you can have a good treatment.

                              The Ways of Avoiding Altitude Sickness

                              • Prepare and pack up the right and reliable trekking gear
                              • Avoid drinking contaminated water from local taps and river
                              • East fresh food items
                              • Do not smoke and drink a lot
                              • Address any kind of serious illness if you have beforehand the trek
                              • Ascend with the right pacing and have proper acclimatization
                              • Tell your guide if you have any sudden problems in your health
                              • Just relax, be confident and have plenty of hot drinks
